Privacy Policy
Tuitionwing is in early access. This policy describes what the service does today, and we will update it, with a new date, if that changes.
What we collect
- Waitlist: your email address, and the time you joined.
- Account: your email and a password. The password is stored as a one-way hash by our sign-in provider, so we cannot read it.
- Your profile: your answers to the questionnaire, such as your education, school, major, GPA, ZIP code, activities, minimum award and the time you can spend per week. Every question can be skipped.
- Optional sensitive answers: only if you choose to continue past a consent step, we ask about things like heritage, first-generation status, languages, gender and identity, health and home circumstances, and finances, because many scholarships are restricted by them. These are stored separately from the rest of your profile. Skipping a question is never treated as an answer.
- Your matches: the scholarships we find for you, saved with your account.
- Matches you remove: when you mark a scholarship "Not a match", we keep which scholarship it was, the reason you chose, and any note you wrote.
- Problem reports: if you report a problem with a scholarship, we keep your message, the scholarship, and the date.
- Technical data: our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and pages requested), and we use your IP address briefly to limit abuse.
The live "estimate" you see while answering the questionnaire before signing in is calculated on the fly. We do not save those answers unless you create an account and submit your profile.
How we use it
- To find scholarships you may qualify for and show them to you.
- To email you invitations, password resets and messages about your account.
- To fix mistakes, using the problem reports you send us.
- To improve matching: when you remove a match, an AI model reviews your reason and note, together with the parts of your profile that matter for that scholarship, to work out why it was shown. A person then decides what to change.
- To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
We do not sell your information and we do not use it for advertising. Matching runs on our own rules. We use AI in two ways: to read public scholarship web pages, and to review why you removed a match.
For the second use we send our AI provider your reason, your note, and only the profile answers that matter for that scholarship, such as your school or GPA. Your sensitive answers are included only if that scholarship's own rules use them. We never send your name or email address. Anything you type in the note is sent as you wrote it, so please do not put personal details in it. We do not train AI models on your answers.
Who else handles your data
We use these providers to run the service. They process data only to do that job:
- Supabase: database and sign-in.
- Render: hosting.
- Resend: sending our emails.
- Anthropic: the AI provider that reviews the reasons you give for removing a match.
- Google Fonts and unpkg: our pages load fonts and icons from them, so they can see your IP address and browser type.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users or the service.
Cookies and browser storage
We keep your sign-in session and your unfinished questionnaire in your browser's local storage so they are still there when you come back. We do not currently use advertising or analytics trackers.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and profile while your account is active. Waitlist emails are kept until you ask us to remove them or early access ends. Deleted data may remain in our providers' backups for a short time.
Your choices
You can ask us at any time to show you what we have about you, correct it, or delete your account and profile. Email support@tuitionwing.com from the address you signed up with, and we will respond within 30 days. If you live in California, you have these rights under state law, and we do not sell or share your personal information as those laws define it.
Age
Tuitionwing is for students 13 and older. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before using it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, access is limited to what the service needs, and sensitive answers are stored separately. No system is perfectly secure, so please choose a strong password and tell us right away if you think your account was misused.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above, and if the change matters we will email account holders.
